Tuesday, October 03, 2006 Speak out: Dress code at Capitol By Asuncion Caraos Basak, Pardo
Since it would have been a waste of time and money for me to go home and change my clothes, I convinced my 18-year-old son who had an undershirt to let me wear his polo shirt over my sleeveless blouse.
The scheme worked and I was allowed to go in leaving my son outside.
Clearly, this ridiculous policy smacks of discrimination towards the poorest segment of the citizenry who, because of the current economic difficulties, could afford to buy no more than cheap China-made slippers, sleeveless shirt or blouses from ukay-ukay stores on the sidewalk.
I believe the said dress code should only apply to Capitol employees and should not include the general public who go there to transact business with the government.
May I suggest therefore that the general public be exempted from complying with this silly dress code?
