Thursday, October 05, 2006 Cesafi releases funds for other events
IT’S better late than never.
The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) has finally paid off all of its financial obligations to the tournament managers of the different sports last Tuesday, long after more than half of the events have already concluded.
“All budgeted expenses have been paid off,” said Cesafi commissioner Feix Tiukinhoy, who had admitted that the delay was caused by the long process taken before budgets are approved.
The delay forced the tournament managers to look for other funds for Cesafi.
Dr. Gil Ramas, who is in charge for swimming, had to use money from his own pocket for the event that concluded last Sunday, while the Cebu Volleyball Association (Ceva), which took care of volleyball, also used its own funds.
The volleyball event ended two weeks ago. Other events which have wrapped are are tabe tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, and swimming.
The budget for the events is supposed to cover the rental of the venues, the officials’ fee and the marshals.
Tiukinhoy said he will be proposing a new process because he wants to prevent such delays for the next Cesafi season.
“The process that we make use of now is very long. I will be suggesting to the next set of officials that the registration fee should be commensurate to what the cost of the event will be,” he said.
Subsidized
This year, schools participating in every event are asked to pay minimal registration fees, which are used to operate an event.
The shortage is subsidized by Cesafi funds and from earnings in basketball, which is the profit earner for Cesafi as it earn a lot from ticket sales.
Before the money is released however, managers are asked to submit budget proposals for review to deputy commissioner Danilo Villadolid before they are forwarded to the commissioner. The commissioner will then recommend approval to the president Oscar Tuazon, before it is finally released.
“We already know the cost of operating an event based on the proposals submitted by the tournament managers. The registration fees next time should be enough for the event to stand on its own. This way, the release of the budget would be fast,” Tiukinhoy added.
Meanwhile, three more events of Cesafi—-taekwondo, athletics and dancesport will take center stage this weekend in their respective venues. (MCB)
