Exports’ growth creates jobs

WITH Cebu’s rapidly expanding software export sector, the province is set to become a haven for employment in the country, an official of the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (Cedf-it) said.

“Our information technology (IT) industry is attractive to both foreign and domestic companies,” Cedf-it senior adviser Fred Kintanar said.

He said the local industry shows an increasing demand for IT graduates equipped in programming and engineering jobs.

“We need to be flexible in the human resource side, in relation to the growing changes of the Cebu labor market, specifically for IT-related services,” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

Because employers compete in hiring “world-class and competent” applicants, the province should be ready to produce a huge number of quality graduates, he added.

Quality

Meanwhile, Kintanar also suggested the “bridge-course training module” as a cost-effective initiative for companies to hire “quality” employees.

“This is attractive for companies because once they provide sponsorships for these near-hires, they will be able to identify specific employability skills without having to spend much for recruitment,” he said. (MMM)
