Friday, October 06, 2006 IPR Week observance By Clint Fabiosa & Andrew Ong I protect
THE Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the Philippines will celebrate the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Week on the last week of October 2006.
The celebration will highlight the importance of intellectual property rights in the industrial and economic development of the country.
Leading in to the IPR week, the IPO will undertake several IPR-related activities that will promote public awareness on IPR.
Cebu will host one such activity on Oct. 17, 2006 at the City Sports Club Cebu from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The activity will be a round-table discussion with the theme “Patenting Makes Business Sense” and will feature three inventors as key speakers.
IPRotect Cebu is organizing the discussion in cooperation with the Cebu IP Alliance, Department of Trade and Industry–Cebu and the IPO.
Just like trademarks, patents are part of the wide spectrum of intellectual property rights that will result in considerable economic benefits to their owners if properly registered.
It is the objective of the discussion to raise the level of awareness of businesspersons regarding the economic benefits of patent protection.
