Drum corps contest slated

ALL is set for the holding of the First Annual University of Cebu (UC) President’s Cup inter-school drum and bugle corps competition on Oct. 8 at the New Cebu Coliseum.

Eight colleges and high schools within Metro Cebu have so far confirmed their participation in the contest, which is aimed at getting the youth involved instead of turning to drugs.

The competition was organized by the UC Alumni Association Inc. (UCAAI), in honor of UC president Augusto Go, who will be celebrating his birthday on Oct. 11.

UCAAI president Sotero Cabanes said the contest is open to all universities, colleges and high schools in Cebu with drum and bugle corps, with decorum and disicpline.

Cabanes said the association has invited 12 schools to join the contest.
Trophies and plaques of appreciation will be awarded to all the participating schools and their advisers and trainers.

Awards

Individual special awards will be given to the groups that will be judged as most punctual, most disciplined and best in parade.

Awards will also be given to the best flag bearer, best majorette, best bugler, best bass drummer, best lyrist, best snare drummer and best tomtom drummer.

The participating schools are University of San Jose-Recoletos, Don Bosco Technology Center, Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, Tejero Elementary School, Cebu Institute of Technology, University of the Visayas (main), San Isidro Perpetual School in Talisay City and Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School.
