Friday, October 06, 2006 Council wants Oct. 16 declared a holiday
THE Talisay City Council yesterday approved a resolution requesting Mayor Socrates Fernandez to issue an executive order declaring Oct. 16 a non-working holiday in the city.
The resolution is aimed at giving the Talisaynons, government officials, businessmen, teachers and students in public and private schools the opportunity to rest from work the day after the City’s Oct. 14-15 fiesta celebration.
“Declaring the following day, Monday, Oct. 167, 2006 as a non-working holiday will also mean acknowledging public and private individuals’ efforts and active involvement in the City of Talisay’s tourism activities,” read the resolution authored by Councilor Shirley Belleza.
Grand parade
Belleza, City Tourism Heritage Council chairperson, said the school teachers and students in Talisay will actively participate in the Halad dance while local businessmen will also join the Inasal grand parade on Oct. 15.
The Halad is the Talisaynons’ way of giving honor and thanks to their patroness, Sta. Teresa de Avila through religious and cultural dance while the Inasal Festival showcases the City’s famous crispy lechon.
Fiesta organizers kicked off the City’s two-week series of events leading to the fiesta celebration with a religious procession and a holy mass at the Sta. Teresa de Avila Parish Church in Barangay Poblacion last Sunday. (GC)
