Cebuano tankers shine in Dumaguete
THE undermanned Cebu Blue Marlins (CBM) Club swimmers came up with sterling performances in their respective events in the Pilipinas Youth Swimming Club Age Group Competitions yesterday in Dumaguete City.
The CBM, the top team in the recent Iligan swimfest, sent a lean but mean delegation to Dumaguete, where all of its eight swimmers claimed gilts to give the Cebuanos a total haul of 20 gold medals in the two-day tournament.
University of Cebu’s Noel Cañeda spearheaded the Cebuanos’ assault, as he stamped his class in the Boys 15-Under division, where he bagged a total of five gold medals and three silvers.
Cañeda topped the 200m individual medley, 200m breaststroke and 800m freestyle in the opening day, and won in the 200m butterfly and 100m breaststroke yesterday.
He also finished second in the 100m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly.
Another UC stalwart, Andrew Dequiña, snared four golds, one silver and two bronzes.
He won in the 200m individual medley, 200m breast stroke, 200m and 100m backstrokes in the 17-Above Men’s Open division.
Jeffrey Yana, on the other hand, doled out three gold medals for the team. (MCB)
