Green Lancers face Adamson in Champions League

Games today at the UST Gym:
2 p.m. Adamson vs. UV
4 p.m. UST vs. Jose Rizal

THE University of Visayas (UV) Green Lancers will test the mettle of the Adamson University Falcons in today’s crucial knockout match of the 2006 Philippine Collegiate Champion’s League at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Gym.

The Green Lancers, six-time straight Cesafi champions, are wary of facing the Falcons, which have reached this year’s final four of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

The Falcons have 6'5 Kenneth Bono, Marc Agustin, Patrick Cabahug, Melvin Polayapoy, Roel Hugnatan and Leo Canuday as their main starters.

Bono is the most experienced Falcon, being a mainstay of the Montaña Jewels in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL).

The Falcons of head coach Leo Austria will also be using the services of rookies Rey Gorospe (6’3 forward), JB Orera (6’2) and Allan Dominic Santos (6’2) for the offensive thrusts.

The Green Lancers of coach Boy Cabahug will be counting on first five Rino Berame, Jayford Rodriguez, Morsie Akad, Von Harry Lenete and Eduardo Berame.

Cabahug also has Jaymar Vincent Canoy, Ritchum Mare Diputado, Jaysar Esperat, Eulogio Lasala Jr., Mark Anthony Manigque, Frangel Omolon, Kenneth Pepito, Lucky Pitogo, and Bomber Sendrijas.

The game between the Green Lancers and the Falcons is the curtain raiser at 2 p.m., followed by the game between Jose Rizal Technological University Bombers and 2006 UAAP champion UST Growling Tigers at 4 p.m.

Other results in the Sweet 16 last week: the Mapua Cardinals routed St. Francis of Assisi Doves, 77-60; the University of the East Red Warriors beat the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 84-60; the Letran Knights defeated the University of Cebu Webmasters, 81-71; and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles trounced the Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI) Admirals, 87-73.
