Cardiac patients form local support group

THE cardiac patients of Metro-Cebu have formed an association called the Kapamilya Sa Puso-Cebu Association Inc.

The members are those who underwent a heart by-pass, angioplasty, valve replacement surgeries or those who had heart attacks and even those with risk factors leading to heart diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus and high cholesterol.

It is a non-stock, non-profit organization, with the aim of creating a support group for cardiac patients, providing an avenue for continuing education and awareness of their illness, and fostering camaraderie among patients.

A lay forum, screening for cholesterol, blood sugar and osteoporosis and an induction of the new set of officers was held at the Baseline Restaurant last Oct. 7.

Inspiration

Dr. Jane Galang, a cardiologist, will give a talk on “Puso Mo, Sagot Mo!” during the event, sponsored by Novartis Philippines Inc.

Cebu Archbishop Ri-cardo Cardinal Vidal was invited to give an inspirational message to the members of the association.

Dr. Walter Acusar, vice president of the Philippine Heart Association-Cebu Chapter, will induct the new set of officers.

The newly inducted officers were Dr. Joseph Antigua as president, Dr. Renen Dungog as vice president, Tata Velasquez as secretary, Stephen Libi as treasurer and Joseph Lipardo, Jesus Solon, and Col. Romeo Colina as board of directors.

For inquiries, one may call Velasquez at Perpetual Succour Hospital Heart Institute at 233-9314, Aimee Apura at Chong Hua Hospital Heart Insitute at 254-1461 local 7023 and Caroline Abadias at Cebu Doctor’s Hospital Heart Institute at 253-7511 local 324.
