Wednesday, October 11, 2006 SPO1 Agadier awarded in ‘02
DOING acts beyond the call of duty is not new to SPO1 Meliton Agadier.
Agadier, 44, was the off-duty intelligence officer of Carcar Police Station who ran after two men who robbed passengers of a Colon-bound jeepney along M. J. Cuenco Ave., Barangay Tinago, Cebu City at noon last Sunday.
Gerry “Nonoy” Bayno, one of the robbers, was shot dead for attacking Agadier. The other suspect, Romulo Ligan, was arrested and charged with robbery.
Agadier was a recipient in the 2002 annual awarding of exemplary police personnel in the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
Agadier recalled having responded to a snatching incident in 2003 in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City where he also arrested the perpetrator.
Agadier joined the service on Sept. 1, 1986 with the then Integrated National Police (INP).
In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, he said he is only living up to the police’s motto to serve and protect regardless of where the incident may occur.
He lives in Sibonga town but is Carcar Police Station’s front-liner in implementing search warrants and warrants of arrest.
“Simple ra gyud akong gusto sa kinabuhi, nga mo serbisyo ug makahatag og maayong kaugmaon sa akong pamilya, (I simply want to serve and give a good future for my family),” Agadier said.
Law enforcement runs in his blood because his father and three brothers were members of the Philippine Constabulary, while another brother is with the Philippine Air Force.
Acting Cebu City Police Director Melvin Gayotin said he will submit today the recommendation to the City Hall and the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 for Agadier’s commendation.
CPPO Director Vicente Loot earlier told reporters that he will recommend for the PRO 7 to give Agadier a Medalya ng Kasanayan for his efforts.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña assured to give P20,000 cash and said he will work for Agadier’s promotion.
The mayor said he will also recommend Agadier’s reassignment in Cebu City, if he wants.
Agadier said the cash reward will be help his family, considering that he has three kids in college and one in high school.
He will also be grateful to Osmeña if his promotion will be worked out.
While he welcomes Osmeña’s plan to transfer him to Cebu City, Agadier said he would not comment on it yet because he has good relations with his fellow policemen and the local officials in Carcar. (JST)
