CIS nails ISAC lead after volleyball event

THE Cebu International School (Cis) dragons opened its campaign in the International Schools Athletic Conference (Isac)on a bright note after copping two second-place finishes in the volleyball event over the weekend.

CIS’ twin runner-up finishes gave them the temporary hold of the top spot in the overall standings of the seven-school league, with 12 points. Southville is second with 11, while Brent Subic is third with 10.

Gallant

Their boys volleyball squad, made up of Michael Sharpe, Julien Esconde, Christian Buhisan, Kane Kim, Delvone Park, Lance Lee, Red Miguel, Marco Asperas and Wayne and David Kim, put up a gallant stand in the finals before losing to Brent Subic, 24-26, 27-25.

CIS posted a 5-1 record in the elimination round to take first place and defeated Southville International School, 25-13, 29-17 to arrange the rematch with Brent Subic, the only team to beat them in the finals.

On the other hand, their girls’ team, with Presley Cunningham, Gabby Mercado, Mia Arcenas, Julia Schroeder, Carol Yang, Cathy Wannamacher, Merilee Watson, Danica Ronquillo, Amy Asperas and Holly Dychangco, took a different rout for a similar finish.

The Lady Dragons, posted a 4-win, 2-loss record to take third spot and went on to whip second placer Brent Manila, 25-20, 25-21 in the semifinals to move to a finals showdown with Southville.

However, the host team fell short in the finals as it bowed, 18-25, 23-25.

Other events

After the volleyball events, Isac will resume with the Boys football and Girls basketball in January in Brent Subic and will close out with the Boys basketball and Girls football in Brent Manila in March.

Last year, CIS finished third overall, after tying Brent Manila for the top spot in 2004.

Other Isac members are Mindanao Christian Academy, Brent Bagio and European International School. (ML)
