Pinoys, Yanks top entry list in World Pool

POOL heavyweights Philippines, USA and Chinese Taipei lead this year’s World Pool Championships with 37 entries in the 128-man competition.

The USA, led by former World Champion Earl Strickland, has the most number of entries at 13, while host Philippines and former host Chinese Taipei have 12 each.

Other noted Americans in the field are Johnny Archer, Rodney Morris, Corey Deuel and Jeremey Jones.

RP bets

The Philippines is led by former champion and compadres Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante, this year’s inaugural champion of the World Cup of Pool. Other Pinoy qualifiers are Jose Parica, Marlon Manalo, Alex Pagu-layan, Ramil Gallego, Rodolfo Luat, Gandy Valle, Jeff de Luna, Ronato Alcano, Dennis Orcollo and Roland Garcia.

The list is expected to increase once the qualifying for the last nine spots starts on Oct. 28.

Still absent in the list are World Pool veterans Warren Kiamco, Leonardo Andam, Antonio Lining, Lee Van Corteza, and Antonio Gabica.

Reigning champ

Meanwhile, reigning champion Wu Chia Ching leads the powerhouse Chinese Taipei squad, which also includes 2000 champion Fong Pang Chao.

Other qualifiers for Taiwan are Chang Pei-Wei, Chang Pei-Wei, Kuo Po-Cheng, Huang Kun Chang, Chang Jung Ling, Chen Ying Chieh, Wang Hung-Hsiang, Yang Ching Shun, Fu Che Wei, Lee Kun Fang and Liu Cheng Chuan. (ML)
