Games tomorrow (Rizal Memorial Coliseum): PCU Dolphins vs. UE Warriors SBC Red Lions vs. UV Lancers
TOMORROW will be a tough challenge for the University of Visayas (UV) Green Lancers when it faces this year’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champion San Beda College (SBC) Red Lions at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
It will also to be a crucial knockout for an outright spot in the final four of this year’s Philippine Collegiate Champions League. Both advanced to the round of eight after surviving their foes in the Sweet 16.
The Green Lancers nipped the Adamson University Falcons, 70-67, while the Red Lions escaped the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 75-72.
All eyes are on the match ups from the court generals to the key players of both teams as they clash in tomorrow’s main game.
Trading wits
The tandem of ex-PBA players Boy Cabahug and Al Solis—bench tacticians for the Green Lancers—will try to outwit the Red Lions head coach Koy Banal in ballgame strategy.
On the players’ match up, Banal might be using 6-foot-8 center and rookie-MVP Samuel Ekwe, who was on the bench the whole game last Tuesday due to slight knee injury.
The Red Lions also have Alex Angeles, Micah Evangelista, Raymond Maggay, Riego Gamalinda, John Paul Escobal and Yousef Aljamad, who took charge of the team’s offense with Ekwe’s absence.
Cabahug will be using the services of his main starters 6’6 center Rino Berame, Morsie Akad, Eduardo Arda, Jayford Rodriguez and Von Harry Lañete.
The Green Lancers also have the reliable stringers from the bench—Jaymar Vincent Canoy, Ritchum Mare Diputado, Jaysar Esperat, Eulogio Lasala, Mark Anthony Manigque, Frangel Omolon, Kenneth Pepito, Lucky Pitogo and Bomber Sendrijas.
It’s also a crucial game in the curtain raiser as the Philippine Christian University Dolphins will take on the University of the East (UE) Warriors. (JAF)
