MALACAÑANG yesterday declared Oct. 24 as a non-working holiday in celebration of the feast of the end of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr.
In Proclamation 1155, which Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita signed, the Arroyo administration cited the need to promote cultural understanding and integration.

The holiday, Ermita said, will give the entire Filipino nation the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.
Republic Act 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday throughout the country.
100 percent
The law, which took effect in 2002, included the Muslim holiday in its list of official national celebrations. This means, employees who report for work on Oct. 24 will receive an additional 100 percent of their daily pay.
Ramadan is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting. (Sunnex)
