Monday, October 16, 2006 2 men spend weekend in jail for ‘shabu sale’
TWO men spent their weekend in jail, and several years more if found guilty, after they were arrested for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
For allegedly selling a shabu pack, Manuel M. Alcomendras, 29, was handcuffed by Barangay Punta Princesa policemen at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
He was caught in a buy-bust in Sitio Kaga after receiving a P100 bill handed by a decoy.
He will be charged today for violating Section 5 of RA 9165, a non-bailable offense that carries a penalty of life imprisonment to death.
It also imposed a fine, ranging from P500,000 to P10 million.
Tipster
At 11 p.m. the same day, Vice Control Section members, led by PO3 Jeffrey Larrobis, rushed to Highway Tagunol, Barangay Basak Pardo after a tipster called to inform them of a drug-sniffing session there.
They caught Alex H. Garat, 50, who allegedly had with him two pieces of rolled tissue paper, three pieces of rolled aluminum foil, and a disposable lighter.
Shabu users use rolled tissue papers as wick in heating shabu placed on aluminum foils.
Garat was detained at the Cebu City Police Office stockade in Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Ave.
A complaint for violating Section 14 of RA 9165, or possession of dangerous drug paraphernalia, will be filed against him today.
The law stipulates a penalty of six months and one day to four years imprisonment and fine, ranging from P10,000 to P50,000, for the offense.
Patrol
At 2 p.m., members of a Mabolo Police Station miscellaneous team on routine patrol seized four small shabu packs in Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Luz.
Based on a report that the station submitted to the CCPO, the team, led by SPO1 Ricardo Escobedo, was patrolling the area when it spotted Romeo A. Mantal, 25, at the stairs of his house.
Mantal was allegedly dividing into smaller packs illegal drugs placed inside a plastic medicine box.
Seeing the policemen, Mantal allegedly ran away, leaving behind the shabu packs.
Escobedo and his men tried chasing Mantal but failed to arrest him.
Mantal, however, will be charged today for shabu possession. Police will use the recovered packs as evidence against Mantal. (JST)
