Badian, Moalboal teams inch closer to volleyball cluster championship

BADIAN and Moalboal are neck-and-neck in the battle for Cluster II-B of the 2nd Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Cup for Women Volleyball Tournament as of Saturday at the Alegria Sports Complex.

The two teams, which were runners-up last year in their clusters, were on even terms with two victories apiece.

This drew them closer to the cluster championship, where the winner in cluster II-B faces Cluster II-A champion Boljoon, which won the other weekend. The winner in the cluster will get P20,000.

High spirits

Badian and home team Alegria were in exceptionally high spirits yesterday with the morale boosting from their local supporters and town officials.

Apart from sharing identical win-loss slates, Badian and Moalboal are both banking on their skippers, who used to be members of the University of San Jose-Recoletos volleyball squad.

Badian leaned on the expertise of its team captain , Kimberly Gendrauli to pull out a lopsided victory over Ginatilan, 25-7, 25-11 and later overpower Dumanjug, 25-19, 25-20.

Frontline

With Melfa Gador at the frontline, Moalboal defeated Alcantara, 25-14, 25-20 and later defeated Ronda, 25-19, 25-12.

Alegria on the other hand, despite having homecourt advantage, registered only a win over Ginatilan, 25-12, 25-11, after bowing to Dumanjug, 25-23, 25-19 in their first game.

Cluster II was divided into two groups after more than 10 teams signed up in the area. Cluster winners and their runners up will advance to the regional finals, where the champion will get P100,000. (MCB)
