FIFTEEN true-blue Cebuano dribblers will carry the banner of Cebu City come the Astig Revicon: Guinness Dribbling Challenge grand finals on Oct.28 at the Pasay Sports Complex in Metro Manila.
This after they earned slots to the national finals in yesterday’s elimination round held at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Talamban Campus gym.
Leading the cast of the Manila-bound dribblers are Rey Gubatan, Windchell Jayme, Rowel Pua, Micah Anthony Romero, Dave Carl Kintanar and Ryan Cabayagan.
They will be joined in the Manila finals by Garry Andamon, Kevin Stanley Sayson, Granvrir Nunez, Jaime Macasero, Jr., Loumer Gerson, Richard Caparino, Jonry Yrsal, Billy Jo Magdadaro and Jeorge Gerson.
The Cebuano hopefuls will pit skills against the 15 qualifiers each from Davao City and Dagupan City and the 55 from Metro Manila as they eye to land a new world dribbling record.
Guinness record
The winner in the grand finals will take home P250,000 and an additional P250,000 should he make a new Guinness World Record for Dribbling.
The Manila event is also an attempt to shatter the world record for longest continuous dribbling currently held by African-American Joseph Odhiambo.
Odhiambo set the world record for dribbling non-stop for 26 hours and 40 minutes with a Spalding Never Flat Basketball.
He also spun the ball on his finger continuously for four hours and 15 minutes to shatter the old mark of three hours and 59 minutes.
Aside from the two records, Odhiambo is also sharing the world record for the most number of treys made in one minute with Dave Hopla.
Distinction
Odhiambo and Hopla hold the distinction of being the only two men on the planet to have hit 20 treys in a minute to join the elite list of Guinness World Record holders.
Boston Celtics star and Spalding endorser Paul Pierce pulled 19 treys to share the previous record at Spalding’s court at Jam Session. (JAF)
