“Entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of the economy. They create new jobs, new industries, new wealth and new opportunities that make a positive difference in our communities. They are role models and modern-day heroes who turn their vision into a growing, innovative, and thriving enterprise. Through their commitment and passion, they help shape the future, touch lives and transform societies,” SGV branch manager Madz Vestil said.
Contributions
The Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines program recognizes the contributions of Filipino entrepreneurs as they continue to excel in their fields and drive the nation’s economy into the future, she said.
Now on its fourth year, the program has been held in more than 100 cities in over 40 countries and six continents.
Some of the Filipino awardees were Tony Tan Caktiong, president and chief executive officer of Jollibee Foods Corp.; Socorro Ramos, founder and general manager of National Book Store Inc. and Lance Gokongwei, president and chief executive officer of Cebu Air Inc.
Successful
Owners of two-year-old privately held businesses, who are active in top-level management, are eligible for nomination.
Anyone associated with a successful entrepreneur such as professional advisors, customers, suppliers, bankers, lawyers, employees, spouses, or even the entrepreneur himself, could do the nomination.
Nominees will be short-listed based on a financial date ranking system used by all Entrepreneur of the Year-participating countries.
An independent panel of judges, composed distinguished personalities from government, business and the academe, will select the category winners and the winner in the country.
The criteria for judging include growth in turnover, profit and employee number.
The other factors are degree of innovation, development of creative and ingenious production, marketing and selling techniques, and extent of expansion into local and international markets. (JBN)
