Capitol gives financial aid to family of CICC welder

CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia handed to the family of the welder who died while working at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) the assistance from Capitol and from her own pocket.

Garcia gave P10,000 from the Provincial Social Welfare Development (PSWD) and groceries such as rice, sardines, milk, coffee and noodles.

Garcia also gave personal money but she did not disclose the amount.

Aside from the financial assistance, Garcia also told the brother-in-law of Revencio Adlawan to visit the Capitol after the burial so they can help him find a job.

Adlawan’s brother-in-law is a licensed mechanical engineer.

Garcia also instructed Provincial Health Office chief Cristina Giango to help Adlawan’s mother Gliceria who suffers from cataract.

The funeral expenses had been taken care of by Willy Te, the contractor of CICC, which is the main venue of the Asean summit in December.

Garcia visited Adlawan’s wake in Tuyan, Naga town yesterday morning and assured his family that Capitol will look for ways that will lessen the impact of his loss.

An autopsy on Adlawan’s body showed that he suffered electric shocks Wednesday night.

Adlawan, 33, was among those who were hoisting beams on the second floor of the CICC when the accident happened around 8:50 p.m. last Wednesday.

He was found slumped on the scaffolding, prompting other workers to think he was just sleeping, but they realized something was wrong because he did not move when they approached him.

He was rushed to the Mandaue City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. (MBG)
