Group offers less pricey services for ISO process

HIRING consultants for environmental management would not be as expensive as it used to be with the presence of the Philippine Environmental Management Professionals Association (Pempa).

A member-organization of the Confederation of Filipino Consulting Organization (Cofilco), Pempa was formed in Cebu in 1999.

It is composed of environmental professionals who advocate and implement ethical and technical standards in the environmental management profession.

The organization, which held its induction of officers and first Investiture of Fellows last Saturday, envisions to become a pro-active and independent national organization of environmental professionals, according to a statement.

Antonio Tompar, Pempa president, said in an interview that companies in Cebu can avail of consultation services on environmental management, such as ISO certification, from Pempa’s 30 individual and company-consultants at “affordable” rates.

“This is an advantage for Cebu because with Pempa, the practice of consultancy is already regulated. Companies do not have to pay high for foreign consultants,” he said.

Tompar said members of Pempa are duly accredited by the government and are eligible to handle public and private infrastructure projects.

Accredited

Republic Act 9184, or the New Procurement Act, requires government agencies to hire the services only of consultants accredited by the government.

Inducted last Saturday were Edwin Perez, chairman; Tompar; Leo Salubre, executive vice president; Marcelino Balansag, vice president-internal; Guadalupe Mansueto, vice president external; Corazon Ygona, secretary; Jose dela Victoria, treasurer; Ferdi-nand Alcazaren, public relations officer; Jose Modulo Bajarias III, auditor; Benjamin Negapatan, legal counsel; Reynel Bancal, Hector Jamora, Oscar Lopez, Antonio Mansueto II and Omar Sanchez, directors.

Present during the affair were Cofilco president Eliseo Evangelista and Environment Management Bureau Region 7 Chief Alan Arranguez. (JBN)
