Mandaue ‘07 budget increases to P633 million because of loans

WITH increased budgets for the Office of the Mayor and other departments, the 2007 annual budget of the Mandaue City Government rose to P633 million.

The figure is P25 million more than this year’s annual budget, which is P608 million.

The City will spend next year P528 million from the general fund and P50 million from the development fund.

It allocated P17 million for the public market, P12 million for the slaughterhouse, P25 million for the city hospital and some P1 million for the sports complex.

The biggest increase in allocation is the P100-million budget for loan amortizations.

This year, it was only pegged at P57.13 million.

The 2007 budget has P167.48 million for personal services and P410 million for maintenance and other operating expenditures (MOOE).

The Mandaue City Council approved the annual budget on first reading yesterday and referred it for study to the committee on budget and finance.

“A major segment in the proposed budget is devoted to the pursuit of goals and objectives of assuring delivery of basic services and facilities. Solid waste management, environmental protection program, socio-economic programs, support for education and health care programs are allotted. Thus, the foregoing are the various thrusts of this administration,” read the letter of Mayor Thadeo Ouano, who submitted the proposed annual budget to the City Council.

Among other offices, the biggest allocation goes to the mayor’s office with P58.26 million.

It will spend P35.24 million for personnel services and P23.02 million for MOOE.

The City Engineer’s Office comes next with P25.69 million, up from P24.3 million in the 2006 budget.

The Department of General Services will get P22.6 million from only P21.8 million this year.

The City Council will get P20 million.

The City will have P26.4 million for its local calamity funds which is for unforeseen expenses arising from calamities.

Some P53.16 million was set aside for other programs and projects, but the items were not specified in the proposed budget.

The City’s subsidies for the Mandaue City Jail and the Mandaue City Police Office are pegged at P1.5 million and P3.65 million respectively. (AAG)
