Wednesday, October 18, 2006 PacMan to limit ‘ad space’
AS Manny Pacquiao is deep in training for his third fight against Erik Morales, another “fight” is brewing, and this time it’s not who gets to face the Pacquiao next, but who gets to be “with” Pacquiao on the ring for the Grand Finale on Nov. 18.
Erik Penida, vice president for marketing of Manny Pacquiao Promotions said they will limit product patches on Pacquiao’s shorts to only three.
“We’re putting together a list for Manny to consider. It’s Manny’s decision which to choose,” Pineda said in a report posted at Philboxing.com
Pineda explained that Pacquiao is the hottest commercial endorser in the country today and that his endorsing power increased after dealing Morales his first knockout loss in their second outing.
During Pacquiao’s last fight against Oscar Larios, which was held in Manila, Pacquiao’s shorts were peppered with the logos of a battery product, a food chain, a coffee drink, energy drink and the trademark “No Fear” clothing line.
Meanwhile, former WBC light flyweight champion Brian Viloria will get another crack at the crown he lost to Omar Nino when the two meet in a rematch under the Pacquiao-Morales III card, according to a report posted at Boxingscene.com
“I didn’t fight my fight that night. I just wanted another opportunity and now I have it on Nov. 18,” said Viloria, who’s 19 match win streak was halted by Nino’s upset win.
Viloria, who fights under the moniker Hawaiian patch, earned the title after a stunning one-round knockout win over Eric Ortiz on Sept. 10, 2005 and defended it successfully against Jose Antonio Aguirre last Feb. 18. (ML)
