Wednesday, October 18, 2006 UC bets take three gold medals in white belt judo tournament
THE University of Cebu (UC) judokas copped three of the five gold medals at stake in the Cebu City All White Belt Judo Tournament at the Guadalupe Sports Complex last Sunday.
UC’s Joselito Padilla, Anthony Ian Canceran and Joanna Gilig pulled a gold each in their respective weight categories in the one-day tournament, which was organized by the Philippine Amateur Judo Association Inc. Cebu Chapter.
Padilla defeated Lloyd Limbaga of the University of San Carlos (USC) in the men’s finals of the 85 kgs. Category, while Canceran bested UC teammate Noel Bureros in the men’s finals of the 45-85 kgs. category.
USC’s Elmer Valmores took home the bronze medal in the division.
UC showed their dominance in the Women’s Open category as it bagged all the medals.
Golden girl
Joanna Gilig defeated Michelle Legarte to earn the gold medal, while Margie Estrogero finished third.
In other bouts, Chuck Cañete of Doce Pares copped the gold medal after beating Alex Roa of USC in the men’s 45 to 65 kgs. Finals, while Geronimo Cabo of UC got the bronze medal.
Joaaquin Fernandez of the Cebu City Judo Club grabbed the gold medal after defeating Jiegs de Gracia in the 45 kgs. men’s finals as Dylan Ludovice of Divino Amore Academy of Talisay received the bronze medal.
The tournament was supported by the Cebu City Sports Commission and the Barangay Council of Guadalupe, Yoshi Mizutani and Universal Robina Corp. (JAF)
