To describe Maja A. Pevendido as an achiever would be an understatement.
Even when linguists still struggled to conjure the phrase “multi-tasking,” she had already given the phrase its definition.
Pevendido, a consistent honor student since elementary, graduated cum laude from the University of Sto. Tomas in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
After college, she went on to teach at the Notre Dame of Manila for nine years, and later at St. Scholastica’s College for five years.
Potentials
After 14 years of teaching, she moved on to work for different companies and held various executive positions before finally deciding to use her creative potentials.
Now, she leads Creative Goods Invention, Inc. as its chief executive officer.
Since 1990, Pevendido found innovations for products together with her Creative Goods Invention group. She has several utility model registrations issued by the Intellectual Property Office. She has more utility models for registration.
A utility model is an intellectual property right that confers protection over innovations that are industrially applicable and made on useful processes, machines, articles of manufacture, and compositions of matter.

Knowing very well the importance of patent registration, she now shares her experiences about the benefits one gains from investing in patent registration to fellow inventors and entrepreneurs.
She said she knows that all the financial strain and hard work she puts into research and development of her products can only be compensated if she gets patent registration.
She is president of the Women Inventors Association of the Philippines and is an active member of several other organizations of Filipino inventors.
Pevendido spoke about invention, patent, and business in a roundtable discussion on the issues last Tuesday at the City Sports Club Cebu. (PR)
