Firm brings to Cebu latest Chevrolet sedan

CAPITALIZING on the local market’s growing demand for luxury vehicles at an affordable rate, a foreign car company recently launched its latest series of sedan type vehicles.

General Motors (GM) Autoworld-Cebu introduced the Chevrolet 2007 Aveo 1.4 sedan last Oct. 10 to cater to “young and sophisticated” motorists.

“Its being affordable need not compromise style, luxury and comfort,” GM Autoworld sales consultant Sheik Arbon said.

Arbon said American and European brand vehicles, such as Chevrolet, have always been “misconstrued” to be expensive.

“We are trying to educate the market through satellite displays, with emphasis on value for money,” he said.

GM Autoworld general manager Cecil Aligno told Sun.Star Cebu the company will soon be changing its corporate identity to just Chevrolet-Cebu.

Brand

“In the Cebu market, brand retention is important. From now on, we will concentrate mainly on selling Chevrolet products,” Aligno said.

The 2007 Chevrolet 1.4 Aveo sedan features a larger body frame and a front grille.

It has a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder engine, which offers more power and better fuel economy than earlier models.

Arbon said the car runs on a variable geometry induction system to ensure “optimum usage performance.”

While rate of fuel consumption is dependent upon the user, he said that on average the Aveo 1.4 sedan runs 15 kilometers per liter.

The car’s interior has plenty of leg and head room and can accommodate up to five passengers.

Side mirrors are larger providing better visibility and clearer view of traffic.

Air vents are round-shaped to allow 360-degree rotation for better air flow adjustability and optimal dispersion of cool air inside the vehicle.

The car also has an audio system that features an AM and FM radio with stereo sound and a compact disc player.

Safety

Its safety features include dual airbags, anti-lock brake system, third brake lamp and the usual front and rear fog lamps.

Aligno also said GM Autoworld is renovating its service facilities to enhance customer service.

“It will have a bigger service space to cater to our growing number of customers,” he said.

Arbon said after-sales service includes 24 hours of road assistance and technical support.

“Contrary to what others say about American cars, car parts are readily available,” he said.

He said Cebu alone has P10 million worth of part support.

The new Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 sedan has two models—five-speed manual transmission and four-speed automatic.

Promotional selling price is P656,000 for the manual transmission and P696,000 for the automatic.

Colors are available in six varieties: black sapphire, royal grey, sparkling tan, sterling silver, citrus green and alpine white.

“Since its launch, we have sold five units,” Arbon said.

The company is currently negotiating with a Chevrolet assembly plant in Thailand to produce more units, he said. (MMM)
