Cebu Doctors’ and Good Samaritan Hospital enter into a partnership

CEBU Doctors’ University (CDU) has signed an agreement with Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) based in Los Angeles, California that will generate career opportunities for CDU nursing graduates and employees.

The signing of memorandum of agreement was held at Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital last Oct.10 and attended by CDU president Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal Jr., Center for Sight head Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III, Center for Imaging head Dr. Philip Larrazabal, CDU Admin head Engr. Oscar Tuason, CDU College of Nursing dean Dr. Ofelia Sisno, GSH president and chief executive officer Andrew B. Leeka, GSH vice president and director for medical education Dr. Enrico Gruet, GSH Human Resource staff Lexie Schuster and Angela Pelayo.

“We are happy to enter into this partnership because the intentions are good and this will benefit our students and hospital in the long run,” said Larrazabal Jr.

With this partnership, CDU graduates can be assured of direct employment opportunities without going through recruitment agencies. GSH will offer the qualified graduates two years of skills development training before they will be employed.

The partnership also provides for continuing education via web broadcasting and exchange program between medical practitioners of both institutions.

Other tenets of the agreement are still being worked out to make a system that is mutually beneficial.

This is the first partnership of GSH with a hospital in the Philippines.

“There is a tremendous need for nurses in the United States and California has the greatest need among all states because of our aging population,” said Leeka, “We chose CDU as a partner for this program because of its good reputation.”

GSH is looking at hiring 10 to 15 nursing graduates from CDU every year.

GSH is a 408-bed independent, non-profit, and community-based hospital in California. It currently employs some 500 nurses, where 35 percent are Filipinos.
