Cholo becomes Robin in Into the Sun

The popularity of Korean actor Kwon Sang Woo has not waned in the consciousness of Filipino viewers. When the teaser plugs of upcoming Korean series Into the Sun started airing on GMA, viewers immediately recognized him as “Cholo,” his character name in the Koreanovela Stairway to Heaven. Sang Woo so endeared himself to Filipinos then as the mournful lover Cholo in Stairway to Heaven that the Korean series consistently posted high viewership ratings all throughout its primetime run.

Now, “Cholo” returns on Philippine television as marine officer Robin in GMA’s newest Koreanovela Into the Sun, which will start airing this week, after Now and Forever in GMA’s Dramarama sa Hapon (replacing Kim’s Million Dollar Quest).

Stunning in his crisp marine uniform, Sang Woo will surely make female and effeminate viewers fall in love with him all over again as he portrays Robin, an orphaned marine officer who is a responsible brother to his sister Audrey (Kim Jung Hwa, who played Nikki in the GMA series Snow White Sweet Love) and a persistent suitor to Dr. Charlene Kang (Myung Se Bin).

Despite the animosity sparked by their initial encounter when Robin’s over-

agerness to secure medical attention for his sister (who was hospitalized due to acute appendicitis) offended and irritated Charlene, Robin finds himself uncontrollably attracted to the pretty doctor and decides to pursue her. However, aside from her irritation towards Robin’s candid nature, Charlene tries to discourage Robin from wooing her because she’s still mourning the death of her fiancé and is not ready to move on. But true to Robin’s stubbornly determined character, he persists with his courtship and eventually makes Charlene fall for him.

Providing the complication in Robin and Charlene’s love story is Charlene’s fellow doctor Walter (Jung Sung Hwan), who was the best friend of Charlene’s deceased fiancé who is also madly in love with her. Determined to win in the battle for Charlene’s love, Walter resorts to dirty schemes to keep Robin out of the picture and cover up his involvement in the death of Charlene’s fiancé.

Into the Sun’s compelling story will surely have viewers hooked as it premieres this week. “Cholo” will endear himself once more to millions of Filipinos, this time as the gorgeous and lovable Robin, a character Kwon Sang Woo gives life to with striking believability given his proven versatility as an actor.
