Tuesday, October 24, 2006 Sister teams clash in MVBA
DEBUTING M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (MLSDF)-Talisay City Aquastars are looking to copy what the Cebu Landmasters-Mantawi had done over the heavily favored M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu City when the sister teams clash for the first time in the Mindanao-Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference Visayas Division tonight.
Both teams are owned by both owned by businessman Michel Lhuillier. But the sister teams’ rivalry that dates back to the late 1980s will continue to be the focal point between the two of Cebu’s most colorful coaches—Eddie Ybañez of the Aquastars and Yayoy Alcoseba of MLKP-Cebu City Jewelers.
“Their (MLKP-Cebu City’s) defeat against the Landmasters only proved that they are not invincible. We’ll just try to make the most out what I have and try to beat him (Alcoseba) on our court,” said Ybañez of tonight’s 8 p.m. game at the at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Ybañez’s holdovers from last conference line-up when they were still wearing the Mantawi Traders uniform include the 6-foot-7 Rino Berami, Arnel Lozano, Khim Calo, Morsie Akad and team skipper Leode Garcia.
Completing the Aquastars were Von Harry Lañete, Jaysar Esperat, Edward Arda, Jerry Lumongsod, Emilio Aniñon and Ken Abatayo and veteran Chris Carretas.
Meanwhile, Mindanao Division leader Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr will shoot for its fifth straight win as they host the skidding Iligan Archangels at the Xavier University Gym also today. (RCM)
