Tuesday, October 24, 2006 Toledo keeps cluster title
TOLEDO City retained the Cluster III crown after topping last weekend's Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Cup Volleyball Tournament for Women in their own turf.
Toledo City, led by Maritess Natad and Claire Manalili, protected the title after winning all of its assignments in effortless fashions in the two-day tournament, registering a 5-0 win-loss card.
Last Sunday, Toledo won against Aloguinsan, 25-20, 25-12 and eventual second placer Balamban, 25-11, 25-12.
Toledo capped its impressive performance with an easy win in its final game against Asturias, which was a no-show in the final day of tournament.
Revenge
Balamban on the other hand, logged a 4-1 record. After losing to Toledo, it then went on to exact revenge on Tuburan, 25-16, 25-15 to take the second spot.
With the win, Toledo gets the P20,000 cash prize and another shot at claiming the over-all title as it advances to the provincial final with Balamban.
Toledo finished only second last year after losing to Lapu-Lapu City in the final game.
Top purse
Balamban and Toledo join the rest of the top two teams from the other clusters that will battle for the over-all crown and the P100,000 top purse.
Cluster IV takes center stage this weekend in Madridejos and Medellin.
The participants for the cluster are Medellin, San Remegio, Bantayan, Santa Fe and Madridejos. (MCB)
