Bullos overpowers Polosan

CARY “The Prince” Bullos of YawYan Musang displayed superior strength and excellent fighting style to win via submission over Jonathan Polosan of the Mindanao Unified Martial Artists (Muma) in the main event of the Ground and Pound II Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Bullos caught Polosan in a rare neck choke in forcing the referee to stop the fight in the opening round of their light welterweight mixed martial arts duel.

With the win, Bulos improved his MMA record to seven wins in the same number of fights, while the loss of the Cagayan de Oro City-native Polosan was his first in eight outings.

Aggressiveness

Bullos showed his aggressiveness even at the start of the opening round as he attempted to take down Polosan quickly with a submission, but the latter stood his ground as both fighters returned to their respective fighting stance.

Polosan, however, wavered under a barrage of solid punches and kicks from Bullos, forcing the former to change his fighting tactic to submission to avoid being knocked out.

But the technique boomeranged on Polosan when he mounted the YawYan fighter after a takedown as Bullos reversed the situation with an excellent maneuver until the latter was able to take hold of Polosan’s neck and choke it to log the victory via submission.

In the main event of the kickboxing competition, Angel “The Phantom” Oppus of Arcomjukai prevailed over Dante Lendio of YawYan Temple via a split decision in their welterweight division bout with a score of 28-29, 30-29 and 30-28 in favor of Oppus.

Unanimous

In the undercard, Maxlito “Hyper Eagle” Yong of YawYan Musang won over Rosenie Sevilleno of Muma by unanimous decision in their super bantamweight MMA duel.

Control

Yong took control of the fight from the start as he executed several perfect mounts, while landing blows to Sevilleno’s face and thighs en route to victory.

Lapu-Lapu City’s Pablo “The Predator” Santillan of Durex Kickboxing Club, for his part, also registered a win after beating Boyet Azarcon of YawYan Alasan with a unanimous decision in their welterweight kickboxing fight.

Although Santillan couldn’t score a knock out versus Azarcon, it still came out as a lopsided victory as the latter almost could not respond to Santillan’s unrelenting attack.

More MMA bouts

In the other MMA bouts, Atan Canlubo of YawYan Ardigma defeated Victorio Catubig of C-MAC in the junior lightweight division; Michael Arquillano bested Romulo Doble of Arcomjukai in a referee-stopped-contest decision; and Marlon Macahidhid of YawYan Ardigma defeated Hector “The Hulk” Pescalia of Arcomjukai in another referee-stopped-contest.

Titing Cabusas pulled a TKO against Melvin Ordonia; Juby Reubal of YawYan Suma bested Joel Macasling of Calma; and Danilo Teves beat Demetrio de la Torre via a unanimous decision in their flyweight battle. (JAF)
