John Francis Largo shrugged off his being out cold for months as he edged closer to two titles in the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Competitions in Gingoog City, after entering the final round in two divisions yesterday.
Largo of Naga, Cebu, advanced to the title round of the Boys 18 Under division after toppling Antonio Osias, 6-0, 6-2 and sailed to an easy finish in the Boys 16 Under, after flogging Jun Orcullo, 6-0, 6-1.
Varsity
Largo is a varsity player of the University of the Visayas and had represented the country in the Davis Cup earlier this year. Vince Mark Tabotabo of Tuburan Central Elementary School, on the other hand, will also have a long day as he booked two assignments in the final round today.
Tabotabo defeated Joel Lebrodo, 6-2, 6-2 in their semifinal showdown of the 10 Under unisex division to earn a seat in the finals.
Beating
Tabotabo earlier entered the final round of the Boys 12 class, where he is pitted against Rarey Batao.
Batao had received a beating yesterday after bowing to another Cebuano, Franklin Encarnacion of Dumanjug, 3-6, 5-7, in the Boys 14 division.
The Cebuanos are supported by Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez, except for Tabotabo, who is backed by Tuburan Tennis Club's Jude Hilario Laurel. (MCB)
