A LOCAL firm has partnered with a Malaysian vehicle manufacturer to bring to Cebu the latter’s new line of motorbikes and affordable utility vehicles.
Emcor-Cebu and Demak Motor Corp. of Malaysia launched on Aug. 25 the Demak DM 150ZH-3a, a utility vehicle designed for business and home use.
“It looks like a multicab but very affordable. It’s perfect for businesses engaged in selling baskets of fruits, vegetables, poultry, and more,” said Emcor regional manager for Cebu and Bohol areas Alconrey Questo.
He said Emcor is marketing the vehicle mainly to small and medium businesses.
Questo said the Demak utility vehicle is equipped with a 150 cc engine and has an estimated loading capacity of 300 kilos.
Demak and Emcor are also introducing a new line of two-seater motorcycles.
“We are the only ones selling Demak vehicles. We embrace the brand because of their quality and affordability,” Questo said.
“People may think that it has poor quality because it’s cheap, but the low rates are simply because it is assembled (in the country) so we pay less tax,” he added.
He said the vehicles’ parts are made in Malaysia but are assembled at the Zamboanga Economic Zone.
Questo said Demak holds 60 percent of the market in Malaysia and demand for its motorbikes in Cebu has become “staggering.”
“Cebu is a very receptive market. We have increased sales every month,” he said.
He said since Emcor launched the Demak motorbikes, it has sold about 70 already. (MMM)
