3 USC netters win in Prince tourney By Marian C. Baring Sun.Star Correspondent
THE Boys 14 Under division wrapped up with twin brothers Christian Paul and Christian John Cabahug trying to claim each other's scalp for the title of the Prince 03 Next Generation Non-ranking Tennis Tournament.
The event saw three University of San Carlos (USC) players taking the top plum.
In the end, Christian Paul got the better out of his brother, 8-6, in a tightly contested match yesterday at the Mactan Island Lawn Tennis Club in Lapu-Lapu City.
The brothers Lilo-an are second year high school students of USC South Campus.
The twins' compatriot from USC, Lowell Lloyd Cañete bagged the Boys 16 title after trouncing University of the Visayas' Cyril Camporedondo, 8-3.
Team event
The twins, Cañete and Bernardine "Niño" Siso are the champions in the team event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), where they trampled Campredondo's squad.
Sallydine Siso, another Carolinian, bagged the Girls 14 title with an emphatic, 8-0 bashing of Maria Loreto.
The other USC player, Bernardine "Niño" Siso, only made it to the semifinal round of a much older age group, the Boys 21 Under division, where he bowed down to Larry Antigua, 8-4.
Siso is the country's top player in the Boys 14 division, therefore disqualifying him from entering in his age group in this non-ranking competition.
Medals
The winners were awarded with specially crafted Prince medals handed out by club officer Sol Zulueta, who represented club president Vic Radaza.
In the 10 Under unisex, Jan Michael Necessario took the plum after trouncing Van Abestado, 8-0, while Junel Abellanosa collared the Boys 12 title following his 8-7 exploit of Bran Mangapis.
Kezia Adelyn Jabines dominated in the Girls 12 with an 8-2 flogging. Lovelie Soquiño of University of Cebu defeated Sienna Pavo, 8-2, to win the Girls 16 diadem.
In the Under 21 division, Ryan Repunte trounced Antigua, 8-3, for the crown of the boys class, while University of San Jose Recoletos' Jin Querubin took the distaff side title after defeating USC's Kristel Mae Buenacosa.
