Aquastars outgun Iloilo Turbos 80-65

THE MLSDF-Talisay Aquastars drew huge games from its starting guard Khim Calo and the bench to subdue the Toyota Iloilo Turbos 80-65 in the MVBA Second Conference Visayas Division at the Talisay City Sports Complex Saturday night.

With its starters hounded with early foul trouble, the bench players led by Morsie Akad and team skipper Leode Garcia stepped up to frustrate the debuting Turbos, which only had nine players in two of its three games in Cebu.

Elusive 1st win

As of press time, the Turbos were shooting for its first win against the Cebu Landmasters-Mantawi at the Mandaue City Sports Complex yesterday.

On Tuesday, the Turbos will try to end their Cebu swing against division leader M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu City Jewelers at the Cebu Coliseum.

Good fight

Iloilo put up a good fight for the first 20 minutes, engaging the hosts in a tough exchange of baskets while fishing out fouls that put their opponents in early penalty trouble for two quarters.

With Bruce Dacia, Leo Bat-og and Rino Berame sitting at the bench Talisay City coach Eddie Ybañez gave extended playing minutes to Akad, Garcia and Jessie Lumantas who responded with much gusto to keep the Turbos at bay.

MLSDF-Talisay (80) – Akad 15, Calo 13, Carretas 11, Lumantas 10, Bat-og 7, Esperat 6, Berame 4, Garcia 4, Dacia 4, Abatayo 2, Arda 2, Lanete 2. Toyota-Iloilo (65) – Balgos 24, Sencil 10, Leonida 10, Senierez 5, Porral 5, Billones 4, Sina-on 2, Delcaban 2, Bautista 2. (RCM)
