After winning relay medal, Cebu swimmers also make final round in 16 events

Cebuano tankers collared a gold medal in the first day of the National Special Olympics for persons with disabilities, which opened yesterday in Marikina City.

Renato Ramirez, Andrew Qui, Geovanie Gimena and Merlin Monteclaro topped in the 4x50 m freestyle relay Open Boys Division to win Cebu's first gold.

Gold medal round

Apart from this, the team members, including lone lady swimmer Joansaula Oppus, also qualified for the gold medal round of their respective events after making the cut in yesterday's heats.

Ramirez will be competing in the 50m and 100m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, while Qui will be swimming in the 50m and100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke of the 16-21 boys class.

The two will be strutting their wares in the Boys 12-15 years old division.

Meanwhile, Geovanie Gimena will be Cebu's top bet in the Boys 16-21 class, where he will be racing in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.

Monteclaro on the other hand will be competing in the 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 50m back of the 22-29 boys division.

Oppus will vie for the top plum in the 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke of the girls 16-21 division. (MCB)
