No Asean holiday for 3 City Hall dep’ts

IT WILL be a four-day holiday for the rest of Cebu City but three City Hall departments will be working in “full force” to provide maximum service during the Asean summit.

City Administrator Francisco Fernandez said the Cebu City Medical Center, Department of Public Services and the City Traffic Operations Management will be working full time from Dec. 11 to 14.

“Other offices will have a skeletal force but for the three departments, they will be in full force and will have assignments for the summit. All our equipment, vehicles and personnel will be ready for mobilization,” he told reporters yesterday.

Even heavy equipment from the private sector will be available for City Hall’s use anytime during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit next month.

Officers of the Cebu Contractors Association pledged to support the City Government in ensuring the successful hosting of the event.

The contractors agreed to provide services and allow the use of their equipment in case there will be emergency situations during the summit.

They also agreed to a post-event billing with a 50 percent discount on their standard rates for government agencies.

“If there’s an emergency, they agreed to let us use their equipment with a 50 percent discount and just settle the payments after. In an emergency, it’s time consuming to negotiate that’s why we have a contingency planning, there will be less red tape,” Osmeña said.

The mayor entered into a memorandum of agreement with the contractor’s association yesterday morning. (LCR)
