Barrita: Salamat, Nay
By Eddie O. Barrita
Tikdul-tikdol

When Bobby Nalzaro of dySS introduced Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia in a recent interview as “Inahan sa Sugbo,” she gamely called Bobby “anak.”

In the interview, Governor Gwen said she has implemented almost one billion pesos in infrastructure projects, including concreting and asphalting of roads and repair of bridges.

Salamat, Nay.

***

Gwen said the construction of the P450-million Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) has not sidelined the delivery of basic services.

And bear in mind it took Cebu’s first lady governor to build the province’s first “inexpensive and world-class” international convention center.

Salamat, Nay.

***

Ambassador Marciano Paynor, head of the Asean Summit National Organizing Committee, saw “tremendous progress” in the CICC’s construction.

No wonder a taxi driver told me it wasn’t there yesterday.

***

Ambassador Paynor and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña cited the law of supply and demand for the high hotels rates in Cebu during the Asean summit.

And Mayor Osmeña admits this is one law even Congress can’t change.

***

Cebu City Councilor Edgardo Labella wants the Department of Tourism to design a course on Cebu culture for Asean delegates and tourists.

For him, the message should be clear.

Yes, Cebuanos are hospitable. But polite tourists are more welcome than others.

***

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who aspired to become the country’s first lady chief magistrate, should instead be appointed defense secretary.

More lethal than bullets, her endless arsenal of the English language with some foreign accent could smother Abu Sayyaf bandits, communist insurgents, Muslim separatists or military putschists.
