Speak out: Smoking woman mayor
By Sabino R. Dapat
Concerned Citizen

I had my haircut at Maanyag Salon in Ayala Mall in the afternoon of Nov. 12 when suddenly the salon opened their main door and started using electric fans to drive away cigarette smoke that was contaminating the enclosed and air-conditioned place.

I also felt uncomfortable because it started to feel warm inside the salon. Also, I could not bear the smell of cigarette smoke. I get sick.

I asked my barber what it was all about. He told me that a woman mayor from a northern town in Cebu, whose husband is a police officer, was in the salon and was smoking as she usually does when inside.

And nobody in the salon can tell her or point out to her that there are "No Smoking" signs all over the place.

I think it's the height of arrogance and lack of consideration to other people for a public official to be smoking inside a public place that is enclosed and air-conditioned.

Not only that it is so unhealthy, there is also a public ordinance that prohibits smoking inside enclosed public places that are air-conditioned.

I hope she gets to read this letter.
