AC Sports cagers tally upset victory versus Corrtech

AC Sports recovered from a sluggish start to drop the upset axe on their highly-favored foes Corrtech, 112-108, over the weekend in the 2nd conference of the 2006 Cebu Athletics Basketball Association (Caba) dubbed the Tommy N’ Tony Cup at the San Nicolas Sports Complex.

The victory of the Archie Baba-owned AC Sports quintet was their second in six outings, tying their victims, Corrtech, who suffered their second loss in six outings.

The Sportsmen trailed Corrtech in the first two periods as Cesar Ortega wreaked havoc inside the paint in the opening quarter by nailing 20 of his 42 total points to give Corrtech a 38-26 edge at the end of the initial canto.

AC Sports managed to trim the gap to just two points, 52-54, at the bend after their scorers started hitting their marks.

With their offensive engine already revving up, the Sportsmen employed an effective trapping defense in the penultimate canto as they finally overtook Corrtech by outscoring the latter, 44-13, in the period with Norwin Rodriguez and Mariano Chowking leading the charge.

The burst allowed AC Sports to erect a commanding 29-point advantage going into the final phase.

With a very daunting task facing them in the deciding quarter, Corrtech completely collapsed in the game as they failed to come up with any answers to the Sportsmen’s blazing offense and leech-like defense.

AC Sports (112)- Chowking 31, Barcelon 14, Colliflores 12, Dapiton 12, Dano 12, Honoridez 10, J. Gonzaga 8, Pader 8, Roriguez 7, Montañez 6, Baba 5, Opaco 4, Misa 2. Corrtech (108)- Ortega 42, Sanchez 18, Tabalin 14, Castillo 8, Castillo 6, Villar 6, Encorporado 6, Gonzaga 4, Enduma 3, Dico 1. (JSV)
