Badian rules provincial meet

BALAMBAN —Badian Town copped the over-all title in the 2006 Palarong Panlalawigan, which ended yesterday at the newly built Mayor Esperanza S. Binghay Sports Oval, Cebu Province.

With the annual provincial meet using the Palarong Pambansa’s points system, Badian finished 262.5 points after dominating both the elementary and secondary over-all crown.

Badian collected 181.5 points to rule the secondary division, while the town’s delegates also bagged 81 points to take first place in the elementary division title.

Badian took a lot of points in the swimming events when their elementary tankers racked up 171 points and its secondary tankers bagged 181 points.

The Province‘s Physical Education supervisor Seven Paulin, who also heads the Provincial Meet, said they are using the Palarong Pambansa scheme to determine the over-all champion in both divisions.

He also said that this year’s meet is combining the points of the elementary and secondary divisions to emerge the over-all champion.

Behind

Coming behind in the over-all standings, Consolacion finished second place with 240.1 points, while Liloan settled for third place with 199 points.

Bantayan was fourth with 150 points, while Balamban took fifth place with 145 points.

Bemedalled athletes also emerged in the week-long meet, which was held in the sea-view sports center that cost around P15 million by the Cebu Province.

Ara Denisse Echavez of Consolacion bagged five gold medals in the elementary swimming division. Echavez won gold medals in two breast stroke categories and gold medals each in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly categories.

Mary Rose Rubio of Daanbatayan snatched four gold medals in the secondary girls swimming.

Rubio pocketed two gold medals in the backstroke category and a lone gold medal each in the 100 m freestyle and individual medley.

Mark Vincent Billamino of Badian snared three gold medals in the secondary boys athletics.

Bemedalled

He won gold medals in the 100 m, 200 m and 400 m runs.

Other bemedalled athletes who got two gold medals each in the elementary divisions were Genevieve Fernandez of Badian in elementary boys table tennis, Victoria Oril of Ginatilan of elementary girls athletics, Jynil Ilosorio of Sta. Fe in the elementary boys athletics, Marlon Dacayanan of Minglanilla in the elementary boys athletics and Jomar Llenos of Alcantara in the elementary boys swimming.

Other athletes who took two gold medals each in the secondary section were Joy Reyes of Bantayan in the secondary girls athletics, Monica Cuizon of Pinamungahan in the secondary girls athletics, Romile Juevesano of Pinamungahan in the secondary boys athletics, and King Philipp Abad of Badian in the secondry boys swimming.
