Baby Webmasters drown UV Baby Green Lancers

THE University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters reaffirmed their dominance in inter-school basketball tournaments as the 2006 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) secondary division champions beat the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers yesterday in yet another finals showdown.

The Baby Webmasters, which took its first Cesafi secondary basketball title this year, outlasted the Baby Lancers, 76-57, in overtime in the 16th Cebu City Olympics secondary basketball finals at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.

UC trailed UV at the close of the third quarter and in the first six minutes of the final period before breaking out from their slump and turning the tables in their favor.

Score

UC’s Mark Gil Panerio, Robinson Mohammad and Bill Connors scored two points each to give the Baby Webmasters a one-point lead, 56-55, with 40 seconds left.

Mohammad, who drew a foul with 35 seconds left in the ballgame after a steal, split his charity to give UC a two-point edge.

But UV forged an extension period after leveling the score at 57-all in the final seconds.

The Baby Lancers, however were sloppy in overtime as they wasted all their 10 possessions, while UC operated like a well-oiled machine and staged a 19-0 blitz that broke the game wide open.

With the win, the Baby Webmasters has earned the right to represent the Niños in the Cviraa next year in Dumaguete City. (JAF)
