Monday, November 27, 2006 Siso inks twinkill in Malaysia
SALLY Mae Siso, Cebu’s top junior player, sailed through the whole ordeal and came out unscathed in the Selangor International Junior Open Tennis Championship as she completed a twinkill at the Petaling Jaya Sports Complex in Selangor, Malaysia.
Siso of University of San Carlos South Campus (USC-SC) was virtually uncontested in the tournament as she won the singles event the other day and ended her bid with another gold medal finish in the doubles competition yesterday.
“Parang no contest. Walang makalusot kay Em-em,” Coach Jovy Mamawal of Milo said.
Siso, together with Malaysian partner Shareena Kau Gill, clobbered Deliza-vernne Kau Singh and Archnaah Rajan, 6-2, 6-0, for the doubles title of the Girls 12-Under class.
The doubles partner of Siso, who was supported by Jonathan Guardo’s Osaka Iridology, was the one the Cebuana defeated for the singles event title.
“Here in Selangor, Em-em is undefeatable. She just proved that she is the top player in this division,” Mamawal added.
Mamawal also said Siso is at her peak and is very much capable of going against ranked players in an older age group.
“But we prefer that she compete in the Girls 12. She should take advantage of her last month in this age group,” Mamawal added.
The 12-year-old netter will jump to the Girls 14 class by January.
Siso and the rest of her delegation will be driving to Penang today alongside the delegations from Turkmenistan and Singapore for the second leg of the Malaysian Circuit, which will start tomorrow at the Universiti Sains Malaysia tennis courts.
Siso, the topseed in this tourney, will right away plunge into action against Thai netter Chanigarn Chainarong.
Another Cebuano, Vince Mark Tabotabo of Tuburan Elementary School, will automatically enter the second round of the Boys 10 division.
Tabotabo, who is supported by Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez, snared a gold medal after winning in the doubles event with fellow Filipino Jurence Mendoza.
The Penang leg has attracted many participants that organizers decided that some divisions will have to have a qualifying event for the players to enter the main draw.
“Em-em is still the heavy favorite in the Penang leg. I am looking forward kung merong makaka-one set against Emem. Ganyan ako ka-confident sa kanya,” Mamawal added. (MCB)
