Three pairs win three golds each in Osmeña dancesport

THREE pairs made a triple-gold medal finish in their divisions yesterday in the 1st Mayor Tomas Osmeña Dancesports Challenge, which was held alongside the 16th Cebu City Olympics Dancesports competition at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym.

The tandem of Reymar Ruiz and Analy Villarte scorched the floor to bag a gold medal each in the cha-cha-cha, rumba and jive categories in ruling the tertiary division’s Latin event, which drew only two entries.

The duo of Renato Traya and Rhea Chaste Elarcosa aped Ruiz and Villarte’s feat as they snagged all gold medals in the secondary Latin event, while siblings Jones Wolter and Vhinz Dacua carted away all the gold medals in the elementary Latin event.

Joshua Cyrus Ortega and Ma. Ingrid Babiera bagged a silver medal finish in each of those categories in the Latin event to land second in the tertiary division, while siblings Pete Matthew and Emely Fe Revales settled for third after salvaging two silver medals and a bronze.

Kenneth Earl Mendrano and Justhel Kate Tabañag finished third in the secondary division Latin with a silver medal and two bronzes.

In the standard event, John Robert Ybañez and Rie Gallo bagged the first place after winning a gold medal and two silvers in the secondary division.

Renato Traya and Rhea Chraste Elarcosa, who both copped a silver medal in the Modern Standard in the City Olympics, fell short in points as they finished with only two gold medals to land in the second place. Siblings Pete Matthew and Emely Fe Revales finished third.

Another sibling pair, Klein Jason and Kathlene Deluvio copped the Standard category title after grabbing the gold medals in waltz and tango, while taking the silver in the quickstep event. (JAF)
