Mantawi whips MisOR, 94-85, for seventh win

WHETHER at home or on the road, the Cebu Landmasters-Mantawi is proving to be a dangerous team as it picked its seventh win after beating the hapless Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr 94-85 last Sunday at the Leceo de Cagayan Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

The 1-2 combination Alex Cainglet and Egay Billones proved to be the best in the league as the two guards combined for 11 triples as the duo finished with 29 and 23 points, respectively. Cainglet nailed eight triples, while Billones hit three.

The win also extended the dominance of the Visayan teams over their Mindanao counterparts.

The Landmasters were all business at the start as Cainglet started his scoring spree that put the Jun Tan-mentored Mantawi squad to an early 28-18 lead and never looked back despite the huge game of Mandaue City native and MisOr star player Gilbert Demape. Demape scored 26 points for the Rex Salvaña-coached MisOr quintet.

Biggest lead

With its guns blazing hot, the Landmasters went to erect its biggest lead of the game at 81-58 early in the final canto before MisOr came up with the final kicks to pose strong threat.

From a 23-point deficit, MisOr cut down the lead to 88-83 with 1:32 left in the game behind Demape and Bob Cozy Ilanga. (RCM)
