Tuesday, November 28, 2006 New karter takes superkart final leg
A NEW Face in the karting arena made heads turn as Eman Maranga simply outclassed his counterparts during the 8th and final leg of the Shell Y101 2006 Superkarting Series yesterday at the Kartzone in Mabolo.
Marananga, who is only 15 years old, had first taken control of the karts only last month, when he signed up for membership.
In just a few short weeks, Maranga was holding the winning trophy of his first race.
Maranga scorched the 20-lap racecourse fearlessly to defeat longtime kartzone patron Glen Yusingco, who settled at second place in the KT100 Novice Division. The youngest karter in the competition, nine-year-old Jette Calderon, salvaged the last spot of the podium.
Meanwhile, Janjan Gonzales once more gained leadership in the KT100 expert event, dislodging last leg's winner Reggie Hisoler. Hisoler took the second place, while Brian Lim placed third.
Former KT100 expert ruler Kaine Gandionco found another category to dominate in as he topped in the Rotax125 division. The 16-year-old karting sensation from Center for International Education lost the last leg in the KT100 to Hisoler.
Gandionco of Julie's Bakeshop Racing Team is last year's Super Kart Rookie of the Year.
Taking the next two spots in the Rotax125 race are Dondie Benoya and Gandionco's younger brother Patrick.
Also for the second straight time, the race did not carry the Cadet division.
The final results for the over-all winners in all divisions will be announced next month for Kartzone's final race of the year, which is the endurance race, slated on Dec. 16. (MCB)
