Monday, December 04, 2006 Nubain ‘peddler’ falls, drug suspect escapes
AN alleged peddler of Nubain was arrested in a buy-bust by elements of Pardo police station last Saturday night.
In a separate operation, a drug suspect escaped after sensing that the person who was supposed to buy a pack of shabu from him was a police decoy from the Vice Control Section (VCS).
In the Pardo operation, arrested in possession of several ampules of Nubain and paraphernalia was identified as Ronnie Olmo, 31, who resides in Sitio Cacao, Barangay Kinasang-an Pardo, Cebu City.
A team of Pardo policemen led by SPO4 Henry Guia subjected Olmo to a buy-bust using one P100 bill and three P20 bills.
A poseur-buyer and Olmo agreed to meet in Sitio Cacao at 7:30 p.m., Saturday.
After handing over a vial of Nubain, the operatives pounced on Olmo, who was arrested in possession of seven Nubain ampules, 11 empty vials of Nubain, 13 pieces of used syringes and two unused syringes.
Charges will be filed today against Olmo at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
Nubain is a strong painkiller.
Though not listed as a dangerous drug in the new drugs law Republic Act 9165, City Ordinance 1427 bans the sale of Nubain without a prescription from a licensed doctor.
Mere possession of the drug without a doctor’s prescription is unlawful in Cebu City.
Meanwhile, VCS operatives led by PO3 Rey Albotra failed to arrest an alleged “big time” drug suspect in Barangay Kamputhaw Thursday night.
Faustino “Paos” Almario managed to flee from the policemen after finding out that the man who tried to buy P100 worth of shabu from him was an operative.
The operation was conducted at 8:10 p.m., Thursday.
In a report submitted to the operation section of the Cebu City Police Office, the operatives said Almario, after handing over the small pack of shabu to PO1 Julius Anińon, who served as a police decoy, hurriedly ran home and locked the door.
Police chased Almario but failed to arrest the suspect, who reportedly went out of the house using a small exit door at the back. (JST)
