Monday, December 04, 2006 Crazy Horse whips Queen City 5-0 By Mike Limpag Sun.Star Staff Reporter
WHAT was supposed to be a duel between the top two teams turned into a Crazy Horse show, as the Japanese-owned club toyed with Queen City United, 5-0, in the Aboitiz Premier League third round yesterday at the San Roque Parish grounds.
The win puts Crazy Horse at solo first with a clean 3-0 slate, while Queen City suffered its first loss in three games.
The wily Rodolphe Lina snuck in the first goal in the 14th minute for Crazy Horse before Queen City plugged its defensive lapses.
Mad scramble
However, a mad goal scramble left Jan Michael Abellana open for a clear shot in the 43rd for a 2-0 Crazy Horse lead.
Things got worse in the second half for Queen City, which routed Wild Cebu, 6-1, in their previous game, as Crazy Horse kept their pace.
Queen City was never in the ball game in the second half, as Crazy Horse slowly built its offense from the backline, while Queen City’s rare ball possession always seem to end on a Crazy Horse defender’s boot.
Top team
Albert Nangkil headed in the third goal in the 70th minute, while Mitsuo Tsunakiri shot sailed through the back of the net in the 80th and Salem Attar headed in the final goal in the 82nd as Crazy Horse solidified its status as the top team in the league.
In other matches, the Don Bosco Alumni FC survived the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 2-1, while the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) showed its resiliency as it erased a two goal deficit for a 5-2 win over Magone.
Ivy Genson scored first for Don Bosco before Dave Intong leveled the count in the 36th. Crisanto Sarchez banged in the game winner two minutes from time as DBC handed USJ-R their first defeat.
On the other hand Mark Gil Fernandez broke the ice in the 16th and Eugene Ynclino V added his goal in the 27th from a 2-0 Magone lead. However, things unraveled as Jose Fucay struck the first of his three goals in the 36th to bring USP-F within a goal.
In the second half, Junard Fuentes leveled the count in the 52nd and Fucay added a second in the 67th, while Rene Menchavez struck in the 74th as USPF seized momentum. For good measure, Fucay completed his hat trick in the 86th for the comeback win.
