Only minor changes on rerouting in Mandaue City: Tedman official

AFTER the dry run of road closures last week, the Traffic Efficiency Development and Management (Tedman) of Mandaue City will implement only minor changes in the rerouting scheme.

Tedman deputy executive director Damian Enriquo Ouano said yesterday that a tricycle route in Barangay Tipolo and the opening of a road to two-way traffic will be implemented.

This is in addition to the traffic rerouting scheme to be implemented during the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit next week.

He said that tricycles from Tipolo cannot go beyond the corner of A.S. Fortuna St. and Hernan Cortes Ave.

Volume of vehicles

A.S. Fortuna extension in Barangay Guizo will also be open to two-way traffic for all types of vehicles.

A dry run of the traffic rerouting was held last Friday.

Ouano said that the problems encountered then were the volume of vehicles converging at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Only route

Since it is the only route for vehicles proceeding to Lapu-Lapu City, many were stuck in traffic.

He added that even vehicles from the north used the same route even if they could still use M. C. Briones Highway.

Ouano, however, said that PUJ’s from the north that are supposed to proceed to the north jeepney terminal will only be allowed until Makro in Barangay Subangdaku.

They should then head back and not convert the area into a terminal.

The Cebu International Convention Center, where many summit-related activities will be held, is at the reclamation area in Mandaue City.

Delegates who will travel from Lapu-Lapu City to Mandaue and Cebu cities will also pass by the reclamation area, via Ouano Ave.

Ouano admitted that Tedman lacks traffic enforcers but he hopes that barangay tanods will help them in the implementation of the rerouting.

Mandaue City has 38 roadblocks alone because there are several roads that lead to the ceremonial routes. Aside from guarding these, enforcers have to be deployed to other areas too. (AAG)
