Barrita: Sharks
By Eddie O. Barrita
Small Bites

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena won't help national and foreign militant groups who will come to Cebu for their parallel activities during the Asean summit.

But he assured them there are no sharks at the Mactan channel if ever they get thrown there.

There are more sharks in City Hall than in the Mactan channel, he said.

I believe him. He knows sharks.

Osmeña called on militants not to initiate protest actions on ceremonial routes and at venues of the Asean summit to further promote Cebu to the Japanese and the South Koreans.

If the militants heed Osmeña's call, time will come when there will be more Japanese and Koreans in Cebu than Cebuanos.

***

Glemmar Bacusmo of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas told Mayor Osmeña they were not opposed to the Asean summit but they have issues to raise they hope the heads of state could take up.

It will be a patriotic act if they can do that without disrupting the summit.

Feisty Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago said she wasn't angry the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) dashed her dreams of
becoming Supreme Court Chief Justice.

In a privilege speech, she said she was just "irate, foaming at the mouth, hitting the roof, homicidal, suicidal, ballistic."

As the Inquirer aptly headlined it, "Hell hath no fury like a Miriam scorned."

***

Santiago tagged outgoing Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban and the JBC as "earthworms in the judiciary."

Nothing wrong with earthworms we use as bait for catching fish.

But some specie can make Santiago "foam in the mouth."

She should be wary instead of the type that can turn us all into humus.
