US plumbing company opens Cebu office, 24-hr operations

A US-based company specializing in plumbing and drain cleaning services is opening its first outlet in Cebu.

Roto-Rooter, which was founded in 1935 by Samuel Blanc in Des Moines, Iowa, provides plumbing, drain care and emergency services.

“Cebuanos will soon experience the scientific way of solving draining problems,” Maedan group of companies’ chief executive officer Danton Dizon said.

Maedan is the first Cebu sub-franchisee of Roto-Rooter Philippines (RRP).

RRP president Victor Puyat said Cebu’s growing commercial and residential industries make for a good market for the company.

“Any business establishment as well as residences, which have pipes, are our customers,” Puyat told Sun.Star Cebu during the product’s launching yesterday at the Bella Vista Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City.

He said Roto-Rooter’s preventive maintenance package, drain care products and camera inspection gadgets cater to specific problems of homes and businesses.

Leaks, clogs and septic tank malfunctions are common household dilemma while grease clogging and foul smell are the usual concern of restaurants, Puyat said, adding that all these can be addressed by Roto-Rooter.

He warned households against using chemicals, such as muriatic acid, to clean clogged pipes as this will only “worsen” clogging and “is not environment friendly.”

“The use of chemicals will only corrode the pipes and make them brittle,” Puyat said.

Roto-Rooter, on the other hand uses bio-augmentation products or “live bacteria.”

“Live bacteria is essential because it eats up the grease and transforms it to water for easy drainage,” RRP officer-in-charge Dr. Rockwell Singh said.

Roto-Rooter has been servicing commercial property managers, food manufacturers, construction companies, petrol and chemical companies, housing associations, insurance firms, hotels, fastfood restaurants, utilities, and retail chains all over the country.

To better serve its potential clients, the company whose Cebu office is located in Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, will operate 24 hours, seven days a week.

RRP operations manager for the Visayas Joel Napiza said the Cebu office is already getting inquiries from more than 100 establishments.

Roto-Rooter started its operations in the country in 1997.

Puyat said the company is growing by an average of 30 percent growth every year.

It is considered the leading plumbing and drain cleaning service provider in the United States, he said.

It has 500 franchise outlets worldwide including Mexico, Canada, North America, Japan, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia. (MMM)
